    World War II veteran William R. Snead of South Boston, one of the few remaining survivors of the D-Day invasion at Normandy, has died at age 92. Mr. Snead passed away Saturday at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. A self-professed country boy from Halifax County who was drafted into service soon after marrying his first wife, Elsie, Snead was a company engineer with the 5th Division that landed after the first wave of infantry hit the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.
