Responding to a growing backlash, the Republican Party of Virginia has shelved its controversial "statement of affiliation" that voters would have been required to sign before casting ballots in the Virginia GOP presidential primary on March 1. The party's State Central Committee announced the decision Saturday, reversing a policy that it had defended successfully in federal court only two weeks earlier.
