According to unofficial results released by the Santa Cruz County Elections Department early Wednesday, Bruce Jaffe, 59, of Aptos, who has served on the board for 12 years, won first place by a wide margin, with nearly 24 percent of the vote.

Leaders of the District Attorney's Office Consumer Affairs Unit said other Santa Cruz County residents also have fallen victim to similar scams, and they advised residents not to deal with anyone who asks for payment by prepaid credit card, Western Union or Money Gram.
