    Levi Hensley scored the game-winning goal for Soldotna early in the third period against Homer and the Stars went on to beat the Mariners 5-4 Saturday at the End of the Road Shootout tournament in Homer. Hensley broke a 2-2 tie with an assist from Cameron Knowlton with 12 minutes, 21 seconds, remaining in the game, and Ethan Brown added an insurance goal just 1:51 later.

    If Alaska fishermen want coffee at the 2017 Upper Cook Inlet finfish meeting, the Alaska Board of Fisheries might have to change the location to the Kenai Peninsula. In a Nov. 16 letter to the Board of Fisheries, Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Mike Navarre, Kenai Mayor Pat Porter and Soldotna Mayor Pete Sprague offered the board more than $60,000 in service savings if the board were to hold its 2017 Upper Cook Inlet finfish meeting on the peninsula instead of Anchorage.

    The Homer hockey squad faces intense competition from three other teams this week at the End of the Road Shoot-Out at Kevin Bell Homer Glacier King Pee Wee C's took the title of 2015 Peninsula Power Play Tournament Champions in the annual tournament held in Kenai and Soldotna last weekend. The tournament fielded a division of six Pee Wee Tier III teams from around Southcentral Alaska.

Homer took a 3-0 lead after the first period but the Kardinals came back to tie the game in the third period before Homer ran away again in a wild period that saw Homer score six times and Kenai score three times.

Kenai Peninsula Borough Proposition 1, which passed with a 16 percent margin, repealed a 2008 ordinance allowing general law cities to levy their own sales taxes on nonprepared food items the way home rule cities do.
