    Salmon fishing is now closed on parts of the Snohomish Skykomish, Snoqualmie, and Wallace rivers, to protect coho runs into the Snohomish watershed. The Snoqualmie River was closed from the mouth upstream to the Snoqualmie Falls.

    The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for portions of Northwest and West Central Washington, including King, Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston, Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Skagit and Whatcom Counties. Starting Friday, rain is projected to be heavy at times, particlarly in the mountains, where 4 to 8 inches of rain are projected in the next 48 hours.

    The most dangerous wildfire weather of the year arrived July 31 in Washington, with crackling-dry forests and grasslands, soaring temperatures and increased probability of multiple large fires from now through the middle of next week, according to wildfire experts at the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. "The dry fuel, record temperatures, high winds and lightning rolling in from the south present explosive potential for wildfire throughout the state," said Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark.
