    The Smiths Station teen won the cadet category for competitors 13 and under at the 2017 USA Freestyle Kayak National Championships in Columbus on Saturday. Each competitor was given one minute to perform six tricks, a variety of spins, flips and loops, with none repeated.

Between games of a doubleheader, the baseball field at Glenwood was named for Fanning, who has won more than 400 games and seven state championships since taking over the program in 1999.

    Two men were taken into custody in Columbus after authorities in Lee County, Ala., chased a stolen truck they were riding in to 17th Avenue and Manchester Expressway, police said. The suspects were identified as Adam Daniel, 35, of Columbus, and Shaun Wayne Jones, 31. Daniel was charged with theft by receiving stolen property while Jones faces one count each of theft by taking motor vehicle and simple battery.
