    A Florida truck driver was killed after stopping to help a South Carolina family whose car crashed after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Interstate 95. The Florida Highway Patrol reports 59-year-old Efrain Merced saw a car on its side after it hit a guardrail in the highway median early Tuesday. He pulled over onto the highway shoulder and was then struck by 24-year-old Christopher Doobs of New Jersey as he tried to assist two adults and two children in the car.

    The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a tree in the roadway on Interstate 26 westbound near mile marker 2 just before 5 p.m. Oconee County dispatchers said they received reports of downed trees near the town of West Union, on West Union Road and in the Keowee Ebenezer area. Duke Energy reported outages in the West Union area impacting almost 1,500 customers.
