    The Silverdale Community Center may have closed its doors to the public, but the building will provide one more service before its demolition in February: Central Kitsap Firefighters will be using the structure this week to conduct training on air management during a simulated structure fire. Built in 1958, the Silverdale Billie Eder Community Center has significant water damage and its poor condition has made it a liability risk.

    The body of an unidentified elderly person was found inside a container in the back yard of a residence south of Belfair Wednesday morning. The container was found by Kitsap County Sheriff's Office detectives around 11:30 a.m. after they obtained a search warrant for the residence.

    A new $4.5 million community theater could be built by 2018 just north of where the new Silverdale library is planned to be built near Bucklin Hill Bridge. Kitsap Regional Library and Central Stage Theatre of County Kitsap announced last month that they would enter a formal partnership for a development plan at the corner of Bucklin Bridge Road and Blaine Avenue.

    A Bremerton man was arrested in connection to the case of an 89-year-old Silverdale man who is missing under suspicious circumstances. According to Kitsap County court documents, Robert Lee "Bubba" Pry, 29, of Bremerton, was charged with robbery in the first degree, unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree and possessing a stolen firearm.

    First Federal Community Foundation presented a check for $100,000 to the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation to provide site acquisition funds for the new Central Kitsap library facility in Silverdale. The Kitsap Regional Library Foundation successfully raised the full $850,000 needed to purchase the approximately 1.3-acre site at Bucklin Hill Road and Blaine Avenue and closed the sale on Nov. 25. "The new Central Kitsap library in Silverdale will be a true community center, and we are delighted to participate in its creation," said Karen McCormick, executive director of the First Federal Community Foundation, in a press statement.

    Harrison Medical Center provided a preview of what its expanded Silverdale campus might look like, and also indicated its plans for a downtown Bremerton campus, during a presentation to the Central Kitsap Community Council Nov. 19. Jim Alvarez, executive director, support services for Harrison Medical Center, said Harrison was finished with the "concept" design, which called for the Silverdale campus to be flexible and efficient and a "reset" of how healthcare in Kitsap was delivered, with modernized facilities for both the hospital and for ambulatory care. The expanded hospital will also feature a medical office building on-site to house specialists.
