    On Friday, Dec. 9, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Grant County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to 3 Main Street in Hurley in reference to a physical domestic altercation. Deputies were then informed by the Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority that the parties involved in the dispute had moved to 313 Nevada Street in Hurley.

    Silver City Town Manager Alex Brown, who serves as the chairman of the Grant County Water Commission said he had received a letter from the Interstate Stream Commission requested a status report on the $2.1 million allocated to the commission from the New Mexico Unit Fund for the regional water project to get water to Hurley. As a result, the main item of business for the commission meeting on Dec. 9, 2016, at the Town Hall Annex was the consideration of a resolution transferring to the town of Hurley all allocated funds related to the design and construction of a well field and water transmission system from a point in Grant County to the town of Hurley.

    On Saturday, despite the sometimes blustery and at the outset, showery weather, the 6th annual Tamal Fiesta Y Mas took place in downtown Silver City adjacent to and on Bullard Street, between 7th St. and College Ave. Silver City's Mayor Kenneth Ladner opened the Fiesta at 10:00 am, predicting that showers would end by 10:30, which they did! Music from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm was provided by WNMU's Mariachi Plata band and from 1:00 to 3:00 pm by the Caliente Band from Las Cruces. The event attracted hundreds of visitors of all ages who were able to select tamales and other many other delicacies from the numerous food vendors.
