    Though his birth mother desperately wants him back, "Baby J" will be raised by his adoptive parents, a New Jersey appellate court ruled last week in a heart-wrenching adoption case that has left two families in turmoil for months. Gloria Roman, a 20-year-old receptionist from Union County, went to court last year to try to get back her newborn son after she said the adoption agency misled her and failed to inform her about alternatives to adoption, as required by New Jersey law.

    Swimmers and other users of Monmouth and Ocean county rivers should beware of a tiny species of jellyfish , whose painful sting can hospitalize victims and leave scars in the shape of their stringy tentacles, state officials warned on Tuesday. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection advised anyone who may go into Ocean County's Metedeconk River to use caution after the department confirmed the presence of the so-called clinging jellyfish , described as "a non-native species with a powerful sting."

    In a letter to the Borough Planning Board on Tuesday, a lawyer representing developer A&B Property Holdings withdrew an application to build a 5,600-square-foot iteration of the ubiquitous South Jersey convenience mart and a dozen canopied gas pumps, the board Secretary, Dina Anastasio, said. The triangular site along Newman Springs Road is at the northeast corner of a complex intersection also formed by Broad Street and Route 35, or Maple Avenue, and NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line railroad tracks.

    A police officer in Shrewsbury has resigned from his job after pleading guilty to trespassing at a woman's home in January. Ryan Cullinane, 27, admitted Tuesday that while off-duty he was trespassing when he was found at the home of an unidentified Shrewsbury woman, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office announced Tuesday.
