    Just before Glenda Helman began working at Community Networks Inc., two sisters bequeathed a total of $120,000 to the organization that runs shelters for women and children in Martinsburg. "That bequest and other donations have been part of what has kept Community Networks alive and well for the 15 years I've been here," Helman, Community Networks' executive director, is leaving Oct. 3 to be director of grants management for the Franklin County, Pennsylvania, government.

    More than 70 Martinsburg High School students swarmed across Martinsburg Tuesday doing chores at six different locations downtown during United Way of the Eastern Panhandle's 23rd annual Day of Caring. "I've been blessed by my community, where I was born and raised, and I want to give back any way I can," Kaden Stenger, a senior at MHS and president of the school's National Honor Society, said as he trimmed shrubbery outside the Martinsburg Public Library.
