    The Foran High boys basketball team came up with a signature win, defeating an aggressive and fast-moving East Haven team 48-46 on the road on Dec. 19. Coach Tim Swaller's young and inexperienced team, which graduated six seniors off of last year's team, held up well down the stretch and managed to keep a pair of last-second shots from making their way home and either winning the game for East Haven or sending it into overtime. "It's never easy coming here and winning," Swaller said.

    The Foran High boys swim team defeated Shelton High, 88-82, in its season opener at the Shelton Community Center pool on Dec. 18. The Lions' Matt Tylutki , Eric Hammer and Conor Quinn strung together victories, after Shelton won the 200 medley relay with Jack Marciano, Hunter Wronski, Reid Chavez and Jack Wise, and Wronski took first in the 200 freestyle and Chavez in the 200 IM to open the meet. The Gaels' got back in the win column behind Chavez in the 500 freestyle.

    A team of eight students from Orchard Hills Elementary School competed in the Connecticut FIRST Lego League Championships in Shelton this past weekend. The team earned a spot at the state-level event that took place this past Sunday after filing a top performance at the qualifying event held in mid-November at the Elm City Robo Fest in New Haven.
