    After beating lone-unbeaten Farmington 5-3 to force a second game in the District 2 finals on Sunday at Franklin Rogers Ballpark in Mankato, Mark Schommer delivered a solid performance on the mound to set up a game-winning RBI single from Mason Cox to score T.J. Sweere and give New Ulm Gold the 2-1 win in the bottom of the 10th inning. It was a fitting end to a dramatic tournament for Gold , which needed a walk-off win against Shakopee to stay alive in the winner's bracket on Friday.

    New Ulm VFW Gold dropped its first game 4-2 against Farmington, but won when it mattered the most in its second game of the day against Shakopee 4-1 on Saturday in the District 2 tournament at Franklin Rogers Park. With the win against Shakopee, New Ulm will have a chance to get some payback against Farmington on Sunday, but will need to secure two wins in a row in order to advance to state.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 11 am, with a time of gathering starting at 9:30 am, all at Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church 12700 Marystown Road, Shakopee. Pastor Mark L. Schwertfeger will preside.
