    A man walking a dog was mauled by a brown bear in the early morning darkness Thursday near the Seward airport, according to police. Seward police Chief Tom Clemons said the incident at the Seward Municipal Airport was reported just after 6:45 a.m. The man was taken to Providence Seward Medical Center.

    A federal training session for Alaska law enforcement officers on responding to the abduction of a child will bring a "large police presence" Thursday to part of South Anchorage. The Anchorage Police Department said in a statement that the FBI-led event, near Old Seward Highway and DeArmoun Road, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Previous sessions took place Tuesday afternoon near Fifth Avenue and Bunnell Street, and Wednesday afternoon in the Goldenview area of the Anchorage Hillside.
