Among the beneficiaries and collaborators are local students, including those from the nearby Boren Building, where Arbor Heights Elementary is about to go into its final week.

    We were in the merging lane when, seemingly out of nowhere, we saw a giant wooden doghouse fly out of the back of a navy blue pickup truck and bounce onto the freeway. The body of the house bounced up 8 feet into the air and then landed behind a semi truck in the middle lanes while the roof flew onto the freeway directly in front of our car.

    For the first time since the city Finance and Administrative Services ' "draft recommendations" about the Myers Way Parcels came out - May 25th, as first reported here - we're hearing from the group that's been the loudest voice for keeping the site as open space. The Seattle Green Spaces Coalition calls FAS's three-part recommendation "short-sighted," saying that the city has been less than thorough in evaluating the site's ecology and its value, and in reaching out to the community.

    Though the old location of the West Seattle YMCA preschool has been demolished as the Y gets ready for Thursday's groundbreaking on its expansion, it's still offering preschool, and has announced an expansion. The new location for the Y's preschool is the former E.C. Hughes Elementary in Sunrise Heights, and the Y is adding four classes of "quality and affordable half-day, year-round child care for children ages 2.5 to 5 years old between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm."
