    More than five months after we broke the news that KFC was moving out of 3501 SW Avalon Way and The Habit Burger Grill was moving in, work at the site is finally beginning in earnest. If you pass by the busy 35th and Avalon corner frequently , you know the building was repainted in the chain's trademark taupe fairly soon after the KFC closure, but it's been idle in the months since, even drawing some vandalism.

    Though city-sanctioned Camp Second Chance is on the west side of Myers Way, illegal camping on the east side has long been a concern of the C2C Community Advisory Committee , whose meeting today included new info about the recent cleanup in that area. On hand in the community room at Arrowhead Gardens were committee chair Willow Fulton and members Judi Carr, Grace Stiller, Cinda Stenger , and Aaron Garcia .

    After about a week, a dead California sea lion that had been on the beach at Jack Block Park is gone. David Hutchinson of Seal Sitters Marine Mammal Stranding Network shares the photo and explains its disposition: Friday, a team from the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife and SR3 , in cooperation with the Port of Seattle, removed an 8-foot long California sea lion carcass from the public beach at Jack Block Park.

We talked today with co-proprietor Colleen Wilkie , who says they're "excited to be in the neighborhood" since it's where they live - "we feel we could fit right in."
