The existing building will be removed, according to the Design Commission agenda, which should help to preserve topography, vegetation and wetland areas.

With the top 27 golfers moving on, Rachel Fujitani was the Islanders' top finisher, placing third with a scorecard of 80 strokes.

    Mercer Island teachers will take to the streets Tuesday, May 19 after the Mercer Island Education Association voted to hold a one-day walkout appealing for more education funding by the Washington State Legislature. Demonstrators will wear 'Red for ED' on Mercer Island and wave signs at 8:30 a.m. before heading to Seattle Center, where they will join teachers from the Seattle and Issaquah School Districts for a march at 11 a.m. through downtown Seattle.

    Mercer Island dominated the 2A/3A KingCo girls golf medalist tournament Monday at Snohomish Golf Course, taking the top spot both in individual and team competition. Defending 3A state singles champion Rachel Fujitani topped all singles players with a scorecard of 72 strokes, while teammate Kate Peterson tied for second with Bellevue's Julia Dai and Tiffany Huang, finishing with 80 strokes.

The city has been working with King County Metro over the last few months "to design and implement alternative transportation services that will help mitigate for service lost on routes 202 and 205, including a community shuttle and innovative ridesharing solutions," according to the City Council's April 20 agenda bill.
