Run by a small staff backed by refugees and volunteers, the non-profit supports people traumatized by violence and extreme poverty with education, health care, and social entrepreneurship.

    Just announced by the Department of Neighborhoods - the results of the Your Voice, Your Choice voting on how to spend city grant money for park and street projects. In District 1 - West Seattle and South Park - these are the four winners: High Point: Walkway Improvements on SW Orchard St between Delridge Way SW & Sylvan Way SW If you paid attention to the process, which started with suggestions and continued through voting on finalists, you might notice that adds up to more than the $285,000 maximum per district that the city had said was available.

    Thanks for the tips - we went to The Junction to check out reader reports about major tagging vandalism overnight, with huge tags painted in at least one bus shelter as well as multiple large tags on the bricks on the north side of the Senior Center of West Seattle . When we arrived, we found Mike already at work with a pressure washer, getting rid of the vandalism outside the Senior Center.

    Two items of West Seattle interest on the agenda as the Seattle and Tacoma port commissioners meet together tomorrow as managing members of the Northwest Seaport Alliance : TERMINAL 5 MODERNIZATION: While port reps have said recently that there's no tenant yet for an expanded Terminal 5 in West Seattle, tomorrow's NWSA meeting includes authorization for actions related to the "modernization" project, which could be authorized for construction as soon as November if there's a tenant commitment by then. The items on tomorrow's agenda include raising the spending authorization to $25.4 million, with authorization/funding of $5.2 million for "planning, design, and construction of a railroad quiet zone" near T-5.
