The witnesses told KOMO News that the boy was crossing 40th Avenue North at Wallingford Avenue in the crosswalk when a Honda Civic drove through against the red light without stopping.

    The bike lane installation had already been designed and planned before Sher Kung was hit by a dump truck at Second Avenue and University Street Aug. 29. A bike lane already exists on Second Avenue, but only consists of strips of paint that allot a space for cyclists between curbside parked cars and downtown traffic. After this weekend, the protected throughway will include two lanes on the east side of the street set apart from traffic by a designated stretch for vehicle parking or reflective posts.
