    Earlier this week, we reported that a document prepared for the City Council Sustainability and Transportation Committee meeting today included a bit of information we'd been seeking for a while - what's up with 35th SW Phase 2. We monitored the meeting via Seattle Channel to see what would be said. When SDOT's Darby Watson presented the " Vision Zero " program update this morning, she had two notes of West Seattle interest: One was about 35th - she said the report on Phase 1 is expected next month.

    Metro partnering with Diamond for new 'park-and-ride' spaces in West Seattle and elsewhere - but they're not free Metro announced today that it's partnering with Diamond Parking to offer 250 pay-by-the-month "park-and-ride" spots at 12 locations around King County. Only four are in Seattle, and three of those are in West Seattle - by Bartell Drugs in Admiral , by US Bank in The Junction , and Jefferson Square .

    When the city announced that Camp Second Chance in southeast West Seattle would become a "sanctioned" encampment, part of the agreement was to set up a Community Advisory Committee. It's now in place, and Polly Trout from CSC operator Patacara Community Services has sent this public invitation to its upcoming meeting: Our next Community Advisory Committee Meeting for Camp Second Chance on Myers Way will be Sunday, May 7, 2-4 pm.

    Though no one said it aloud, an undercurrent of "can't SDOT just scrap this?" seemed to be running through the Q/A at the latest community meeting about the Fauntleroy Boulevard project , held last night in the new meeting room at the West Seattle YMCA . By meeting's end, City Councilmember Lisa Herbold had spoken up to remind people that SDOT didn't initiate the project - community members did, many years ago - and that the final phase of design is a "negotiation."

Merrilee Ann Blackinton Hagen, a former board president of the historical society, a longtime real-estate broker and a prolific painter of local scenes, had been recovering from lymphoma when she died of a massive stroke on Sunday, April 9, 2017, in her home across from her alma mater, West Seattle High School.

    Their debut last year made news here and far beyond - and this year, the all-girls West Seattle Little League team, the Peaches , are "back for season 2!" The report is from Pam Bigatel : Our coach Sean Eley was able to draft all our girls onto the same team, and we have 12 girls playing in the West Seattle Little League Rookie League. Rookie League is the first division that allows kids to experiment with pitching during game play We were thrilled to learn that there was a record number of girls who signed up for the league this year! There are awesome female players spread throughout the teams this spring.
