    The 200-square-foot library, stocked with nearly 5,000 donated books, opened July 24 in the Hope of Children and Women Victims of Violence compound in Ndejje Central Zone south of Kampala, where English is commonly spoken. Run by a small staff backed by refugees and volunteers, the non-profit supports people traumatized by violence and extreme poverty with education, health care, and social entrepreneurship.

    This morning's City Council briefing meeting included a reminder of a major West Seattle item that's on the calendar for the Sustainability and Transportation Committee tomorrow afternoon , including public comment if you have something to say about it - a "street vacation" sought in connection with the West Coast Self-Storage project proposed for 3252 Harbor Avenue SW. Above , you can scroll through the slide deck that shows not only what's proposed and where - one slide notes they expect the building to include ~850 units - but also what's being offered in exchange for the "vacation."

    For the second consecutive day , Gatewood stabbing suspect Ryan Cox refused to appear for his scheduled bail hearing, according to King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office spokesperson Dan Donohoe . So another one has been scheduled for tomorrow , and Cox remains in King County Jail, three days after he was taken into custody, accused of stabbing a 40-year-old West Seattle man multiple times after a confrontation at California and Orchard.

    The Water Taxi website says it's official : "King County Water Taxi will resume service out of its temporary location at Pier 52 beginning Saturday, Aug. 12 for the West Seattle route, which will operate on a new sailing schedule. The Vashon Island route will resume service on its normal sailing schedule beginning Monday, Aug. 14." Both routes have been out of service since Monday so that the dock could move from the south side of the main downtown ferry terminal to the north side.

    One more reminder: The King County Water Taxi is out of service as of tomorrow , for up to a week. That's a shorter maximum duration than what was originally announced in June , when KCDOT first said a service interruption would be needed for the move to a temporary downtown dock to be used during the overhaul of the permanent site on the south side of Colman Dock .
