    Bonfils Blood Center announced Thursday that it will merge with Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Blood Systems in a move that will strengthen the the combined nonprofit's hold on blood collection across the western U.S. The move comes two years after Bonfils affiliated with the fellow nonprofit in January 2014. The merger is expected to take effect Jan. 1. Bonfils Blood Center will retain its name, acording to Bonfils president and CEO Bryan Krueger.
