Residents were sick of being told that Champaign's Unit 4 district would eventually build them a shiny, new elementary school, and tired of staring at the empty lot in the middle of the Prairie Fields neighborhood, the someday site of Carrie Busey Elementary.

    A former Savoy man convicted of the first-degree murder of his younger brother is headed to prison for 65 years, 30 more than he had received for the crime almost four years ago. The sentence is the second imposed on Brian Maggio, 46, for the July 21, 2010, shooting death of his brother, Mark Maggio, 32. The younger Maggio was gunned down by his brother at the now-closed Tolono IGA that the two of them owned together.

The ruling Wednesday by Judge Heidi Ladd in the case of Matt Sinclair, 32, of Savoy, means that the state's case can proceed against him on two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of weapons and one count of misdemeanor unlawful use of weapons.
