    Like its neighbor Santa Monica and other major California cities including San Francisco and Oakland, the City of Los Angeles approved its own sick leave entitlement ordinance on June 2, 2016. The Los Angeles Ordinance will provide employees working in the City of Los Angeles with the ability to accrue and use up to 48 hours of sick leave, twice the amount provided by state law.

    May 4 U.S. wildlife managers on Wednesday again proposed granting 30-year permits to wind farms that would forgive them for thousands of eagle deaths expected during that time frame from collisions of the birds with turbines, towers, and electrical wires. The proposed rule, like one struck down by a federal judge last year, would greatly extend the current five-year time frame in the permits required under U.S. law for the "incidental take" of eagles, including those killed by obstacles erected in their habitat.

    We've written before about California's prompt payment laws which are designed to help contractors get paid in a timely and orderly fashion, which is always nice, right? California's prompt payment laws require that project owners pay their direct contractors, who are in turn required to pay their subcontractors who are in turn required to pay their sub-subcontractors and so on within certain statutorily set deadlines, or be subject to prompt payment penalties nearly as high as the interest you pay on your credit cards.

    With little fanfare or advance notice, Santa Monica, California, became the latest municipality to enact its own minimum wage and sick leave ordinance , proposed by the City Council on January 12, 2016, and approved shortly thereafter on January 26, 2016. The minimum wage provisions largely mirror those enacted by the City and County of Los Angeles, raising the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour by 2020.

    The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation expects to award bids to develop compressed natural gas refueling stations throughout the state by the end of 2015 as the agency and its counterpart in Maryland increasingly employ Public-Private Partnership laws to align with private partners to facilitate new transportation projects. On September 29, 2014, Pennsylvania's P3 Board authorized PennDOT to seek a private partner to design, build, finance, operate and maintain up to 37 CNG filling stations.
