Jan. 08--SANTA CRUZ -- In what could be the most significant development downtown in recent years, two projects look to revitalize a large portion of Pacific Avenue's south end by improving and expanding public transit, adding much-needed affordable housing and parking, and building connections with the Riverwalk and beach area. Separate projects by Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District and developer Owen Lawlor could stretch from just south of Cathcart Street to Laurel Street, with the two buildings fronting Pacific Avenue and reaching as far back as to the parallel Front Street, on the other side of which is the San Lorenzo River. Comment?
Sept. 05--The costs associated with Metra's controversial 2013 settlement with ousted CEO Alex Clifford totaled about $1.3 million, with about half going to outside lawyers, officials said Thursday. Clifford ended up leaving Metra with a package worth about $652,000, in salary, severance pay, medical insurance, relocation expenses and attorneys' fees. Comment?
July 29--SANTA CRUZ -- A statewide bill that appears headed for passage would allow private security guards and other transit employees to issue tickets for bad behavior around Santa Cruz County transit stops and stations. Comment?
