    Pink sea slugs have been invading the waters along the central and northern California coast from San Luis Obispo to Humbolt County in record numbers after reportedly being "absent for more than 10 years. According to John Pearse, professor emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at The University of California Santa Cruz reported the slugs, Hopkins' rose nudibranch , are a southern species that seem to seem to be driven north by warming waters , which also brought green turtles to the San Francisco area last September.However, while El Ninos in 1998 and 1983 brought the sea slugs to the San Francisco Bay Area , there have been no such weather occurrences driving them now.
