    Eastbound motorist Dawson Newberry, 66, of Newtown, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Maxima, then struck the rear end of a 2000 Mercury Sable driven by Renzo Ortega, 28, of Sandy Hook, pushing that vehicle into the rear end of a 2000 Subaru Legacy Outback driven by Monica Ortega, 27, of Danbury, and pushing that vehicle into the rear end of a 2010 BMW 328-XI driven by James Pote, 69, of Sandy Hook, police said. The drivers of the Nissan, Mercury, and Subaru and two passengers in the Subaru all reported minor injuries, but refused medical attention, police said.

    This Newtown Historical Society photo shows the Gibson residence in Sandy Hook, circa 1900, which was later known as the Fredericka House. The house came down in 1972 when the Methodist Church was moved, according to handwriting on the back of the photo.

    Police report that at about 5:38 pm on March 27, motorist Mary Kokoska, 50, of Newtown was driving a 2015 Audi Q-3 SUV eastward near 31 Swamp Road in Botsford, when the vehicle went off the roadway, entered a ditch, and then overturned. Police said the motorist told them that she had fallen sleep while driving.

    About 2:49 pm on February 17, motorist Jason Taweh, 16, of Newtown, who was driving a 2016 Subaru Legacy, was preparing to exit a commercial driveway at 64 Church Hill Road, as motorist Pavlo Honcharenko, 18, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2010 Subaru Impreza eastward on Church Hill Road, police said. As the Legacy attempted to exit the driveway, the two vehicles collided, police said.

    At about 3:27 pm on January 23, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road, police report. In that incident, a 2014 Cadillac ATS auto driven by Barbara Brennan, 78, of Sandy Hook, struck a 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-350 auto driven by Annmarie Brennan, 54, of Sandy Hook, police said.

    Police report that motorist Alije Suma, 26, of Derby was driving a 2009 Honda Accord westward on an icy Berkshire Road, about 100 feet west of its intersection with Zoar Road, at about 11:40 pm on January 15, when the auto crossed the road's centerline, struck some curbing, and then traveled off the left road shoulder, hitting a utility pole, and then rolling over. Suma received minor injuries in the incident, police said.

    Jerome "Jerry" H. Shapiro, of Sandy Hook, died peacefully on January 11 while under hospice care at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. He was born in Port Chester, N.Y., on August 4, 1929, son of the late Frieda and Irving Shapiro.

    Sometime between December 28 and January 8, someone stole a decorative park bench from curbside at a residential property on Marlin Road on the road section lying between Marlin Road's intersections with Toddy Hill Road and Hoseye Coach Road, police said.     At about 2:43 pm on December 9, a 2003 Mack MR-68 garbage truck driven by Freddie Moore, 35, of Waterbury was parked along the eastbound road shoulder of Bennetts Bridge Road, near Lakeview Terrace, as motorist Carrie Ann Battaglia, 43, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2011 Lexus GX-460 SUV eastward on Bennetts Bridge Road, police said. As the Lexus was passing by the stopped Mack, Moore opened the garbage truck's driver's door, damaging the passenger side of the Lexus, police report.

    Police report a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident that occurred on westbound Berkshire Road, near Great Ring Road, about 9 am on November 4. In slowing traffic on the roadway, motorist Cole Desrochers, 17, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, struck the rear end of a 2006 Honda Civic driven by Devante Parks, 22, of Shelton, pushing the Honda into the rear end of a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder SUV driven by Soumia Rossetti, 44, of Shelton, according to police. There were no injuries.

    Botsford Fire Rescue volunteer firefighters extricated an elderly driver from a SUV that had crashed into a metallic support pole for a traffic signal, early on the morning of October 28. Botsford Fire Chief Wayne Ciaccia said that firefighters spent about 15 minutes extricating the man trapped in the vehicle by removing a door and lifting the vehicle's dashboard off his legs. Police said that motorist Gordan Gray, 85, of Levittown, Penn., was driving a 2016 Jeep northward on South Main Street at about 12:01 am, when the vehicle drove off the road's right shoulder, struck a traffic sign, and then traveled across Botsford Hill Road, where it collided head-on with the pole, heavily damaging the vehicle.

    At about 2:18 pm on October 4, motorist Nelson Bassette, 46, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry sedan southward on South Main Street, near its northerly intersection with Elm Drive, turned to the right in order to avoid colliding with a noncontact vehicle that was traveling in front of him, police said. In making the right turn, however, the Toyota struck a stabilizing guy wire for a utility pole positioned along the roadway, damaging the guy wire, police said.

    Police said they received a report about 8 pm on June 25, informing them that a vehicular accident had occurred on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Jordan Hill Road, so they went to the area to investigate. Motorist Israel Morales-Ramirez, 43, of Derby had been driving a vehicle which rolled over, but he was not injured, police said.

    At about 9 pm on September 10, an unknown motorist, who was driving a vehicle eastward on Riverside Road, drove off the right side of the street and then struck a curbside mailbox and a wooden bench near Riverside Road's intersection with Philo Curtis Road, police said. Police said they received a report about 11 pm on September 11 that a motorist was driving erratically northward on South Main Street, so they went to the area to investigate.
