    The Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a festival-style event on Dec. 5. Activities will include archery demonstrations, up close encounters with birds of prey and reptiles, as well as presentations from many of the refuge's state and local conservation partners. Highlights will include hawks, owls and falcons from the Environmental Studies Center, insects from the Audubon Institute's Bug Mobile, and special demonstrations of traditional Choctaw music and dance.

    A south Mississippi wildlife refuge has been releasing hundreds of critically endangered frogs into the wild, hoping they will repopulate inside the refuge. Workers at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge in Gautier have released 1,074 dusky gopher frogs into the refuge since May. "We are taking an existing population of the frogs from Saucier in Harrison County and repopulating them elsewhere," wildlife biologist Angie Dedrickson said.

The Sun Herald reports that workers at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge in Gautier have released 1,074 dusky gopher frogs into the refuge since May. Wildlife biologist Angie Dedrickson says the Saucier tadpoles are brought to the Gautier refuge.
