    A person was hit and killed by a vehicle after jumping out of a moving ambulance on the Interstate 680-Interstate 580 interchange Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. According to initial reports, a person was being transported in the ambulance around 7:25 a.m. when the person hopped out of the vehicle on the connector ramp from southbound I-680 to westbound I-580, the CHP said.

    Joseph DeAngelo, the 72-year-old Citrus Heights man accused of being the notorious Golden State Killer, has been charged for the first time with crimes associated with nine Contra Costa rapes in the late 1970s, prosecutors announced Tuesday. Joined at a news conference in Orange County with five other district attorneys, Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton announced that DeAngelo, who had previously been charged with 13 murders up and down the state, would also be charged with four counts of kidnapping during the course of a robbery for attacks in Contra Costa County.

    A Dublin police officer is being accused of excessive force against a legally deaf and disabled 76-year-old woman after she allegedly jaywalked, according to a federal lawsuit. The lawsuit, filed earlier this month in the Northern District of the U.S. District Court, alleges that Hui Jie Jin, 76, a grandmother, was violently thrown to the ground, had an officer's foot or knee on her back and was handcuffed so tightly that she passed out.

Judge Bruce C. Mills insisted his retirement in June had nothing to do with the fact that he was facing removal from the bench after an April decision by a panel of special masters , who found Mills had committed misconduct three times in 2016 and accused him of raising a dishonest defense.
