    In response to the urging of housing advocates to increase funding for affordable housing from the recently extended Measure K sales tax, San Mateo County proposes to eliminate funding for SamTrans paratransit service, which was allocated in the summer of 2013 when the tax was first passed. According to the staff report , other expenses proposed to be reduced or deferred include a fund for miscellaneous local programs at the discretion of county supervisors, a program for at-risk youth, and disaster-recovery efforts for the county's IT systems.

There were more public comments on the 17th in favor of the project than against, the public hearing was closed, meaning there won't be more public comments taken, but people can still write letters.

    In the most recent reported month of its pilot with the Scoop carpool system, the city of San Mateo took over 1300 cars off the roads and reduced parking demand by about 20 spaces, at a cost of about $2.60 per ride to the city, and about $3.40 to each passenger. . The pilot is being run by the cities of San Mateo and Foster City until the initial grant funding of $30,000 from San Mateo and $60,000 from Foster City runs out.

    In early November, consultants for the City of Millbrae held a four-day Charrette to get the resident's ideas for a Specific Plan focusing on the Grand Boulevard along El Camino Real and Downtown One of the workshops included a hands-on exercise where maps of the area were laid out on long tables with 6 to 8 people at each table. We used some cut-out "puzzle pieces" representing various uses and elements of a possible plan such as Residential Development, Commercial Development, Parks, Entertainment venues, plus more specific attributes such as safe pedestrian crossings, bike lanes, traffic lights, etc.
