    After experiencing a rash of crimes this year including an armed robbery, more than a dozen residents in a Rose Garden neighborhood decided they had enough and are lobbying the San Jose City Council to remove a public easement near their homes so a privately funded fence can stay there to help thwart criminal activities. The residents, who live on Rosecrest Terrace near Lincoln High School, asked the council at its Nov. 29 meeting to allow the fence they had installed in the summer to remain permanently at the end of the cul-de-sac, which they say criminals use to enter and escape from their subdivision.

Although he mentioned the importance of the valley for wildlife, it's worth pointing out that two separate studies, by the De Anza College Environmental Studies Department and biologists at Pathways for Wildlife, have documented how crucial the valley is as a wildlife corridor.
