    June 11--The long-awaited opening of the BART extension from Fremont to San Jose might not occur until late September of 2019, the most pessimistic forecast yet for the $2.3 billion project. Officials with the Valley Transportation Authority, which is overseeing construction of the nearly 10-mile line from Warm Springs in southern Fremont to the Berryessa stop in the South Bay haven't given up hope that it could be ready to carry passengers in mid-March of next year.

    Jan. 11--Commuters eager to hop on a BART train to or from San Jose will probably have to wait until fall, at least three months later than projected, BART officials said Thursday. BART will need six months of testing before beginning the new service, but the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, which is responsible for building the 10-mile extension from Warm Springs/South Fremont Station to Berryessa Station in east San Jose, hasn't yet handed over the new tracks.

The peer review, which will commence this month and take several weeks, will be conducted by public transit agencies currently operating rail subway systems.

Jerry Brown has signed a bill allowing Bay Area voters to raise bridge tolls, no date for an election has been set nor has the amount of the proposed increase or whether it would rise all at once or over a number of years. What is clear, however, is that the toll increase would raise about $4.5 billion that would pay for at least three dozen transportation projects.
