Oct. 28--With the local economy booming, and streets and transit systems overwhelmed, San Franciscans may be willing to pay higher taxes and fees to make it easier to get around, though they'll likely need some cajoling, a poll released Tuesday suggests. The citywide survey of probable voters in November 2016, conducted for the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, found strong support for a $4 billion BART bond measure. Comment?
Aug. 25--Traditionalists, criminals and folks hoping to squeeze a few more hours out of their transit fares in San Francisco may lament Muni's decision to discard its old-fashioned transfers, hand-torn and doled out to passengers who pay cash. But few Muni riders were shedding tears Monday at the news that the Municipal Transportation Agency plans to kill the paper transfers. Comment?
Anyone hoping to cruise San Francisco's motley main drag of Market Street, whether driving through or simply gawking, will likely have to do it aboard Muni, in a taxi, on a bicycle or on foot. Come Tuesday, in the latest evolution of the thoroughfare, private vehicles will be barred from turning onto Market between Third and Eighth streets - an effort to reduce the number of collisions injuring pedestrians and bicyclists. June 25--For antsy BART riders, forced to hold it for nearly 14 years, relief may be on the way. The transit agency is looking at reopening the closed restrooms in its underground stations. Comment?
