The San Bruno Park Elementary School District Board of Trustees is slated to discuss Wednesday, Aug. 12, a proposal to reduce outsourcing special education transportation services, as officials believe the program can be run in a more cost-efficient fashion by using district personnel.

The deadline expired Friday, Aug. 7, for candidates and ballot measures to be placed on the all-mail ballot for Election Day, Nov. 3. Incumbents Marc Friedman and Stephen Rogers will run again for their seats on San Mateo Union High School District Board of Trustees, and they will be opposed by educator Greg Land.

    San Bruno officials are prepared to move ahead with construction of a new hotel on a small plot of city-owned land, despite concerns of some residents who feel the city is not managing the property properly. Mayor Jim Ruane said he believed an agreement reached with OTO Development to build a 152-room hotel, with 3,000 feet of community meeting space, on 1.5 acres of vacant property south of Jack's Restaurant near the intersection of El Camino Real and Interstate 380 will move ahead as planned.

    Several communities must make do with their current water supplies for the next few days as crews from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission work to repair a 54-inch pipeline that broke and leaked nearly 15 million gallons in San Bruno. Customers served by the city of San Bruno, the North Coast County Water District and those in the San Francisco County Jail in San Bruno were asked top off their supplies while crews aim to repair the service line by Saturday, said SFPUC spokesman Tyrone Jue.

    Millions of gallons of water have been lost from a 54-inch regional transmission line that broke at Junipero Serra County Park in San Bruno on Monday night, a San Francisco Public Utilities Commission spokesman said today. The break was reported at 9:30 p.m. Monday at the entryway to the park on Crystal Springs Road, SFPUC spokesman Tyrone Jue said.
