    The trial date for a man accused of killing his girlfriend's 2-year-old dog named Sprocket by allegedly lowering it into scalding liquid was delayed Tuesday until Jan. 22, 2018, to give a forensic expert hired by his defense more time to investigate the case further, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. Both San Bruno resident Paul Souter, 26, and his girlfriend, Shelby Lujan, 23, were set to go to trial July 31, more than a year after Lujan brought Sprocket to an emergency veterinary clinic May 1, 2016, about 12 days after Lujan claimed it was injured when a cup of boiling water accidentally spilled onto the dog's crate, according to prosecutors.

    A San Bruno man accused of killing his neighbor and cutting up the body in a dispute over a space heater re-entered a plea of not guilty Thursday as a judged pegged Aug. 24 as when pretrial conference and jury trial dates would be set, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. Earlier this month, a judge found sufficient evidence to try David Stubblefield, 50, after he pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, felony possession of a firearm, felony possession of tear gas and destruction of evidence in April.
