    Contractors working on the Mountain Parkway Expansion west of Salyersville expect to close Gifford Road for an extended period, starting Monday, March 30. Following the closure, motorists to the north of the Mountain Parkway will be able to access U.S. 460 to reach Salyersville, and motorists to the south of the parkway can travel via KY 3337 to KY 30 to access the parkway at Exit 72. The Gifford Road closure will speed construction of a bridge that will be part of a new interchange near mile point 70 of the Mountain Parkway - about five miles west of Salyersville. Construction work on the bridge is expected to begin in a few weeks.

    Crews are placing road signs this week to prepare for next week's start of work on the Mountain Parkway Expansion, a highway improvement project designed to bring a wider, safer road to Eastern Kentucky. Bizzack Construction LLC, of Lexington, was awarded a $19.4 million project last month by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to widen 1.4 miles of the parkway and create an interchange at Gifford Road, which is about five miles west of Salyersville.
