    Megan Caroline Grubbs was crowned the 2016 Little Miss South Carolina Overall Queen following the Little Miss and Teen Miss South Carolina pageants held July 9 through July 16 in Hartsville. Grubbs, one of 162 contestants from across the state to compete, also won overall talent, overall evening gown and was awarded color photogenic and Miss Congeniality in her age group.

    The S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the S.C. Coon Hunters Association are hosting a series of nine youth coon hunts around the state starting this month and ending in February. The hunts will serve as regional qualifying events for the State Championship Youth Hunt and are designed to teach ethics and sportsmanship through low-intensity competitive events.

    Saluda and Edgefield Counties are eligible for USDA assistance as a result of a U.S. Department of Agriculture disaster designation declared for one primary and six contiguous counties in South Carolina. Wilfred L. Pace, state executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency, said the disaster designation is a result of losses caused by drought that occurred from Aug. 9. The decision makes all qualified farm operators in the designated areas eligible for low-interest emergency loans from USDA's Farm Service Agency.
