Gillilan, 51, Canton, and Ashley Sue Gomez, 31, Ceramic Street, East Liverpool, were southbound on the northbound exit ramp from state Route 11 to state Route 154 in Elkrun Township at 6:52 p.m. Wednesday and Gillilan stopped in traffic at a stop sign and was struck from behind by Gomez, who was cited for assured clear distance. Linda M. Peeples, 58, New Baltimore, Mich., was southbound on state Route 45 in Salem Township at 10 a.m. Sunday and struck Amber Lea D. Nguyen, 34, West Lincoln Way, Lisbon, who was westbound on Salem Grange Road.

    Columbiana County will receive an additional $130,000 in state LGF funding, with half of the estimated increase going to county commissioners and the rest spread among the cities, villages and townships. County Auditor Nancy Milliken reported this week her office has been notified the county is expected to receive $2.5 million in local government fund money in 2019, an increase over the $2.37 million allocated for FY 2018.

    In Columbiana County Municipal Court, Charles R. Courtney III, 33, East Sixth Street, Salem, was bound over on a charge of unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance for allegedly having a pipe bomb found inside his home when it was searched on July 25. An Aug. 16 preliminary hearing and pretrial was set for John W. Jarvis II, 41, North Madison Avenue, Salem, charged with burglary and criminal trespassing for allegedly breaking into a home on West State Street in Perry Township, taking a 55-inch TV and placing it into a 2007 Volkswagen on Aug. 7. Jarvis was fined $200 for a failure to reinstate his license suspension.

    Tiona Jones, the Warren woman who pleaded guilty to charges involving leading a drug and crime ring in the Salem area, has now indicated she will file an appeal. Jones, also known as T, 35, was sentenced in late June to 14 years for leading a gang of drug dealers in Salem after Columbiana County Judge Scott Washam denied her request to be allowed to withdraw her guilty pleas to several charges.

    The Columbiana County Board of Elections will have only one issue on the August special election ballot in four precincts on the western most edge of the county in two weeks. Stoffel was pronounced dead at the scene by the Columbiana County coroner.

    The Columbiana County Career and Technical Center is renovating a machining lab for next school year and thanks to a $200,000 grant, they will now be able to obtain more of the expensive equipment needed to fill that space up. Assistant Superintendent Jeremy Corbisello said the CCCTC has been notified that the Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills, also known as RAPIDS, will be providing the CCCTC with $200,000 toward equipment for the program.
