    The man who held police in a standoff for at least two hours on Thursday was charged with the shooting death of a Saginaw man on Monday. Anthony Ontiveroz, 20, was arraigned on charges of open murder, committing a felony while carrying a firearm, carrying a weapon with unlawful intent and fleeing and eluding.

    He was shot around 1 p.m. in front of 713 N. Mason St. between Throop and Hayes streets a few blocks from Covenant HealthCare hospital, according to the Saginaw Police Department. An ambulance took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

    The Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission reports 23 corvid birds have tested positive for the West Nile Virus, as well as two mosquitoes. SCMAC Director William Stanuszek said the mosquitoes which can carry the virus aren't ones you'd typically even notice.
