    California's Division of Safety of Dams recently gave final approval for completion of repairs to the deteriorating, 80-year-old Lake Gregory Dam, which the DSOD had deemed a 'high hazard dam' due to the possibility of its failure during a major seismic event. According to county officials, in order to meet state earthquake safety standards, rehabilitation of the dam will include adding a 40-foot earthen buttress to the downstream side of the dam, which will extend 62 feet beyond the toe of the embankment.

'Lake Gregory is a hidden gem in the San Bernardino Mountain community of Crestline with a floating play park, the new beach cabanas, plus paddle boards and aqua cycles are available to rent and more,' said Ellie Carlos of Westbound Communications. The Lake Gregory Company wants to encourage everyone to come out and enjoy some fun in the park, while the weather is perfect.

    A recently changed landing path for jetliners approaching Ontario International Airport has resulted in an uproar over the roar of low-flying jets in the sky above Lake Arrowhead and numerous complaints from residents. The changed flight path, instituted April 27 by the Federal Aviation Administration, is a part of the agency's Southern California Metroplex project, which was designed to make air traffic in and out of the region more fuel efficient.

    Supervisor Janice Rutherford's Field Representative Lewis Murray addressed the March Crest Forest Municipal Advisory Council meeting, announcing that the county has listened to the community's concerns and reconsidered their parking fees at Lake Gregory, so this season they will be issuing tickets instead of towing cars whose owners do not pay the fee. Caltrans announced that they would be doing research to determine whether big rigs and large trucks should be banned on the steep and winding segment of Highway 138 on the north side of the mountain.

    A public hearing before the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has been scheduled for May 2 to approve a proposed five-year rate plan for water customers living in the community of Cedar Glen. According to documents obtained by The Alpenhorn News , the proposed rate plan indicates the first proposed increase in water rates for Cedar Glen water customers will be the steepest, with the first increase in the fixed monthly charge ranging from 38 percent up to 44 percent.

    The long-awaited seismic rehabilitation of Lake Gregory Dam is on hold, awaiting official clearance to begin necessary dredging, which appears to be bogged down in the mud and mire of the permitting process. According to County Special Districts Department Interim Division Manager Tim Millington, before dredging can proceed, the county must obtain permits from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Lahonton Regional Water Quality Control District and Army Corps of Engineers.
