Despite claims of a lack of transparency and that their decision was already made before Thursday's regular meeting at City Hall, aldermen approved 7-0 an ordinance that rezoned the property on South Arkansas Avenue and Fourth Street to C-2 from C-1 and would allow for the future construction of a Casey's General Store.

    Although the Searcy City Council approved a short-term financing bid for construction of the city's swimming pool complex last Tuesday night, it had questions about how long the financing offer would be available to the city. The council accepted Region Bank's low rate of 1.88 percent over seven other bids, but doesn't plan to take out a loan for funding to complete the pool until it becomes necessary, according to Mayor David Morris.

City Attorney Trey Smith explained he had been in contact with attorneys representing Cochran since he received a letter from the former fire chief, who first came to Russellville in 1978.

    A man and woman from Bauxite suffered an accident on Interstate 40 last week and later died from their injuries at a local hospital. According to a report from the Arkansas State Police , Michael C. Lilly, 58, and Vicky L. Lilly, 57, were on a 2007 Harley Davidson around 7:44 a.m. Friday when the motorcycle, traveling west on the interstate near the 79 mile marker, overturned onto its left side and slid into the left shoulder.
