Students were to complete a one mile race at their own pace - with first, second, and third place receiving cash prizes to be used towards Thanksgiving festivities.

The accident happened at the intersection of State Highways 72 and 81 in the downtown area of Runge at about 4:05 p.m. on Nov. 14. Ramiro Gutierrez, 31, of Zapata was driving a white 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup west on State Highway 72 when the front left of the vehicle struck pedestrian Mary Schrade Morgan, 68, of Runge, as she was walking north in the crosswalk attempting to State Highway 72, also known as East Main Street.

    According to information from DPS, a Zapata man was driving a pickup that struck and killed a Runge pedestrian as she was trying to cross the street Friday afternoon, Nov. 14. A woman pedestrian, Mary Beth Schrade Morgan, 68, of Runge, was struck by a pickup in Runge Friday afternoon and died as a result of her injuries. Many thanks to the Runge Volunteer Fire Department for presenting the families with fire safety information consisting of a speaker with many handouts including a paper punch-out of a fire truck and a hands-on tour on two of their trucks. The families then re-joined in the cafeteria to engage in many fire safety activities such as crafts, coloring pages, and making their very own edible fire truck.
