    The state's highest court strengthened the right to privacy Wednesday, ruling that police who want to seize a cellphone cannot rely on a common sense belief that criminals use cellphones to talk to each other, but instead must have "particularized evidence" the phone was connected to a crime. In a unanimous ruling, the Supreme Judicial Court barred Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley's office from using information gleaned from the cellphone of Onyx White, who was charged with the 2010 murder of popular Roxbury store clerk Angel Serrano.

    A man accused of assaulting clients at a juvenile detention center is now facing charges of witness intimidation after he allegedly confronted one of the alleged victims on an MBTA bus and on a Roxbury street. Ainsley LaRoche appeared in Suffolk Superior Court on Friday where he pleaded not guilty to two counts of witness intimidation and was ordered to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet while free on personal recognizance, according to Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. According to the DA's office, police looking for a Land Rover reported stolen from the area of Harold and Harrishof streets shortly before 2 p.m. spotted the vehicle on Martin Luther King Boulevard and pulled a cruiser into the street to try to box it in.

    The Supreme Judicial Court today overturned a man's conviction for illegal gun possession in Roxbury because while police found him with a gun, they should never have stopped him in the first place - and that the fact that he tried to elude officers cannot be used against him because black men in Boston might have legitimate reasons to be wary of police. The state's highest court ruled that with only a vague suspect description - which included the fact that the suspect and a companion were wearing dark hoodies - police had no probable cause to stop Jimmy Warren on Dec. 18, 2011.
