    For James Roche, life was pretty good until an aunt got him using crack at the age of 12, spurring a long descent into drug and alcohol abuse that ended with him staring into the scope of his "trusty rifle" and shooting two men dead in what he claims was self defense, jurors heard Thursday during the third day of Roche's double-murder trial. Wearing thick, black-rimmed glasses and a black suit, Roche, 33, took the stand as his only defense witness as he tried to convince jurors he killed Ronald "Barney" Evans, 73, and his son, Jeffrey Evans, 43, in self defense after arriving at their home in April 2014 to recover a stolen purse.
