    In 1971, as the county prepared to open the county fairgrounds on a new stage - the Marin Civic Center campus - then fair general manager Marcelle McCoy talked about “the people's fair.” She had for many years run the county fair at the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross and moved the fair to the new fairgrounds. The finishing touches were being put on the Veterans Memorial Auditorium, the fairground's centerpiece, and the acreage was dotted with 200 freshly planted trees and a man-made lagoon and “island.” Today, the fair begins its celebration of its 75th year.
