    The Boston Licensing Board on Thursday considers a proposal for a package store that would specialize in beer and wine from the Caribbean, Cape Verde and other "exotic" locales. Joel Nunez's proposed Nunez Liquors, 114 Washington St., near Columbia Road, would carry the sorts of beverages "not generally available in the area," his attorney, Asbel Nunez, told the Boston Licensing Board at a hearing today.

It was, a federal indictment charges today, an attempt by a member of a Jamaica Plain gang to murder an associate of a rival Jamaica Plain gang who was living on the normally quiet street near the intersection with Cliftondale.

    BPS officials promised students at the Sumner School in Roslindale today that their arson-ravaged playground would be rebuilt in time for the opening of school in September. At a ceremony at which kids thanked the firefighters of Ladder 16 and Engine 53 in Roslindale for keeping the fire from spreading, officials praised the kids for their reaction to the fire - they raised $277.45 in a lemon-aid sale - and parents and local businesses, who have so far kicked in more than $60,000.

Police did not disclose the age of the suspects - who will be arraigned in juvenile session at West Roxbury Municipal Court - or whether they are also the same three suspects spotted near the playground after a smaller fire the month before .

    A Taco Bell franchisee has started advertising for managers and workers at its proposed site next to the Wendy's on American Legion Highway even though it does not yet have approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals or the Boston Licensing Board and has yet to even pull permits from ISD to replace the small ice-cream stand that's now there. Last month, members of the Mount Hope Mount Canterbury Neighborhood Association voted 59-0 to oppose the Taco Bell , saying the strip already has more than enough fast food.

    Police report officers investigating the armed robbery of the the Aney Grocery and Convenience Store, 542 Washington St., didn't have to go far to find the two suspects: Witnesses pointed them to the house at 10 Rosedale St., pretty much right across the street from the store. There, police say, officers found Miguel Sanchez, 27, of Roslindale, and Victor Santiago, 26, of Roxbury, along with "clothing, mask, and gloves consistent with those worn by the suspects in the surveillance video at the scene of the robbery" and a loaded Llama Minimax .45 caliber firearm in a backpack "along with personal papers bearing the name of one of the suspects."

    After nearby residents told him how much they hated the idea of a five-story apartment building with a two-level garage on the triangle where Belgrade Avenue, Beech Street and the West Roxbury Parkway meet, new site owner John Douros agreed to have his architect draft new plans for a smaller building. The Bellevue Hill Improvement Association was scheduled to meet with Douros and his architect tonight, but association President Ginny Gass opened the meeting by saying she got e-mail at 11:12 last night that Douros wouldn't be there because his architect wasn't done with the new plans.

News of the possible 600-unit market rate complex with a pool had Readville residents in an uproar at a neighborhood meeting tonight, even though the developer does not yet own the land, let alone have formal plans to submit to the city.

    A new indictment against two men allegedly working with Usaamah Rahim on a plot to behead Americans when he was was shot to death in the parking lot of the Washington Street CVS last June charges them with "conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries," which could leave them behind bars for life if convicted. Rahim had just walked to a bus stop outside the CVS when a Boston police officer and an FBI agent approached him; authorities say he took out a large knife and was going after the two when they fatally shot him.

On the one hand, residents said at a meeting of the Mount Hope Mount Canterbury Neighborhood Association, they welcome anything that could bring housing that would let young Roslindale residents stay in the neighborhood.
