Local singer-songwriter Joe Greenwood has written, performed and videoed a collection of folk songs about the Red River as part of the 12-week contest, which just wrapped up and required contestants to submit a new song each week.

The affected area includes the cities of Roseau, International Falls, East Grand Forks, Bemidji and Moorhead, northern Cass County and the tribal nations of Red Lake and Leech Lake. Satellite and surface weather observations show an area of smoke moving into northwestern Minnesota.

    Daniel Theodore Curfman, 48, sustained life-threatening injuries after his 1975 tri-sport three-wheeled motorcycle crashed at 4:39 p.m. Thursday, June 28, according to a Minnesota State Patrol news release. He was westbound on Roseau County Road 8 about 20, miles southwest of Roseau, when the vehicle's accident broke, the release said.

    As John Myers of Forum News Service reported a few days ago, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is proposing to reduce the winter walleye-sauger limit on Lake of the Woods from eight, of which no more than four can be walleyes, to six, with no more than four walleyes. The proposal also calls for a catch-and-release-only walleye season on Rainy River from March 1 through April 14. Anglers currently can keep two walleyes under 19.5 inches during the spring season on the Rainy.
