Antonio "Tony" Guerrera of Rocky Hill, the House chairman of the legislature's Transportation Committee, says he hoping to pass legislation this session that directs the Department of Transportation commissioner to begin reviewing the various steps needed to implement electronic highway tolls, including any necessary federal approvals, how many gantries might be needed and how much tolls could cost. Guerrera's committee is tentatively holding a public hearing on Wednesday to discuss proposed legislation that could lead to tolling in Connecticut.

    Aritra Banerjee, a 5th grader at Rocky Hill's West Hill School, won the Connecticut Spelling Bee on Saturday to advance to Scripps National in May. Aritra, 11, spelled "inevitability" in Round 19 to become the state champion, beating the 34 other students in grades 4 through 8 who competed in the bee, presented by the Hartford Courant and the Noah Webster House and West Hartford Historical Society. He approached his winning word the same he did the previous 18, by asking for every piece of information allowed of pronouncer and former Scripps staff member William Dolan: the word's pronunciation, definition, part of speech, language of origin, and usage in a sentence.
