    A voyage data recorder thought to contain key evidence on last year's deadly sinking of the cargo ship El Faro in a hurricane cannot be immediately recovered, authorities said on Wednesday, a day after announcing it had been found . The research vessel used to find the recorder in 15,000 feet of water off the Bahamas lacks the specialized equipment needed to extract it, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a news release.

    A 27-year-old woman is being held at the Knox County Jail after police say her 3-year-old child was found lying in a drainage ditch near her apartment complex. Mandy Dennison, 27, of Rockland was initially charged Saturday evening with endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of drugs when officers were called shortly after 6 p.m. by a neighbor who found the boy alone in the ditch along Rankin Street, according to Rockland police.

    The issue of how long the Maine Lobster Festival will have to set up for the annual event this summer eventually will be decided by the Rockland City Council after a Tuesday meeting showed continued divisions . Mayor Louise MacLellan-Ruf attended a meeting Tuesday afternoon between the Harbor Management Commission and representatives of Rockland Festival Corp. The mayor stressed that the two sides wanted to work together but the hourlong meeting showed there was still disagreement between the groups over whether the festival needed the adjacent Harbor, Buoy and Mildred Merrill parks for 14 days.

    A 64-year-old Thomaston man was arrested Tuesday for the second time in two weeks, accused of sexually assaulting children. Robert J. Robinson was charged Tuesday with a count of felony unlawful sexual contact and a misdemeanor count of unlawful sexual touching, according to Knox County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

    Ever since August of 2015 when wheelchair bound Harvey Lembo shot an intruder in his Rockland, Maine apartment there has been a lot of talk concerning renters who want guns, and landlords who want gun free properties. It turns out that Mr. Lembo's rental agreement included a rule that weapons were not allowed in his apartment, and he was told he would be evicted, unless he removed any guns from his home.
