    A 40-year-old Rockport man is being held at the Knox County Jail after police said he was driving drunk Friday evening, when he struck a pedestrian who later died. Jeremy Stone is being held at the jail in Rockland on charges of felony operating under the influence, felony leaving the scene of an accident involving death and two outstanding warrants for unpaid fines out of Waldo County, according to Rockland police.

    Investigators said Jan. 21 that the Portland house fire that killed two young men from Rockland among others in November was caused by improper disposal of smoking materials, such as a cigarette butt, on the porch of the house. The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental, Portland Fire Chief Jerome Lamoria and State Fire Marshal Joe Thomas said in a press conference in Portland, but the case has been forwarded to the District Attorney's office to determine whether charges will be filed.
